Maasai Cultural Tour

The traditional Maasai community is well known for their unique customs and culture, including vibrant clothing, intricate hairstyles, elaborate jewelry and face painting. Their way of life, the cattle they keep, and their dancing ability also makes them popular around the world. Unlike many other tribes in Tanzania, the Maasai are semi-nomadic and pastoral: they live by herding cattle and goats.

Maasai are one of the last great warrior cultures in the world and one of their famous homes was once the Serengeti (taken from the Maasai word “Serengit” meaning endless plains). It is said that the Maasai see the wildlife as part of their community and have also contributed to conservation of the area by grazing their livestock in specific areas around the Ngorongoro conservation area.

Maasai also make local arts and crafts such as jewelry like bracelets, anklets, necklaces among others which are sold to the tourists during their safaris to the Ngorongoro Conservation area.

Maasai people have lived in the Ngorongoro conservation area for over 100 years. You can visit Maasai people when at Ngorongoro, experience a real native African daily life, enjoy their magnificent dance and learn of their cultural practices.
