Arusha National Park

Arusha National Park

Slightly less than an hour’s drive from Arusha City, Arusha National Park is the most accessible uncrowned park in Northern Tanzania. Mount Meru, the fifth-highest mountain peak in Africa, is located within the park. The park is sometimes referred to as “Serengeti ndogo,” or “Little Serengeti,” due to the ease with which several species, including buffaloes, warthogs, zebras, waterbucks, giraffes, and others, can be seen in vast numbers there. A spotted hyena, a leopard, and even a roaming elephant on the slopes of Mount Meru are among the other animals that can be sighted.

A prominent sight in addition to Mount Meru in Arusha National Park is the Ngurdoto caldera, which was created between one and three million years ago by volcanic eruptions. Massive landslides resulted from an enormous explosion that destroyed the eastern edge some 6,000 years ago. It is also the story of how the captivating Momela Lakes in the northeast came to be. Owing to varying alkalinity levels, every one of the Momela lakes has an amazing greenish-blue hue. It’s a satisfying sight to see the lesser and greater flamingos dotting pink across the water

It’s an ideal park to have a day trip without exhaustion because it does not take a lot of driving in and out of the park from Arusha City.
